Nritya Mandala is a student-led dance club promoting and teaching the beauty of classical and traditional dance forms of South Asia. Our mission is to celebrate diversity through the form of performing arts in a collaborative approach among all.

History

Shringar



Shringar, an Ode to Friendship, a captivating and kaleidoscopic dance drama inspired from Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s “Bhanusingher Padabali” that beautifully explores themes of love, beauty, and devotion in a visual and emotional tapestry accompaniment of a talented youth quartet from the Westlake High School Orchestra.


Utsava



An engaging performance representing distinct styles of Dance such as Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Bengali Folk and Bollywood highlighting unique tales of South Asia.


Nikunj Ras



Performed at the prestigious Radha Madhav Dham Temple of Austin, this production is a visual treat painting the narrative of Lord Krishna, and Radha on the occasion of Sharad Purnima.

Performances

“Sargam” is a representation of musical notes woven into a symphony often used in one of the eight forms of Indian Classical Dance known as “Kathak”. This particular Sargam was sung by renowned Hindustani classical singer and dancer Bageshree Vaze in the album “Ragas and Rhythms”. This piece is choreographed by Kathak dancer Radhika Karandikar, and performed by Adrita Roy at Austin Dance India’s 35th Anniversary Celebration Recital.
A memorable duet performed by Ved Hoskote and Adrita Roy (representing Goddess Radha and Lord Krishna) through dance forms of Bharatanatyam and Kathak from Nritya Mandala’s production of Shringar. “Niratata Dhang” is an Ashtapadi piece by Shri Bindadin Maharaj Ji, representing Lord Krishna through a melodious tapestry of Taal Rupak (7 beat cycle).
The immaculate Jugalbandi (fusion) of Bharatanatyam and Kathak is painted along Sudha Naimpally Ji’s timeless composition of “Nanda Sunanda”. Performed by Dhwani Nathan and Adrita Roy in Cedar Creek Elementary School’s AAPI Month Celebration Assembly.
Performed by Team Nritya Mandala at the prestigious Radha Madhav Dham Temple, Austin TX for Sharad Poornima Event 2024. The production of “Nikunj Ras” was featured live in international television.
Nritya Mandala’s graceful depiction of the Carnatic piece “Swagatham Krishna” composed by the great Oothukadu Venkata Subba Iyer of the 1700, through the dance form of Bharatanatyam, featured in the introductory production of “Utsava”.
